Joseph Gilbey is a Scot. Born in Glasgow in 1928, he served in Palestine and Egypt with the British Army
(1947-1949). In 1957 he immigrated to Canada. After working five years with Iron Ore Company in Schefferville
and Labrador City he moved to Ontario with his wife and two sons. He worked with Ford Motor Company in Oakville
and added two daughters to his family. In 1987 he retired from Ford and travelled extensively around the world.
While visiting Montevideo in 1993 Gilbey became fascinated with the Graf Spee saga. Unhappy with many inaccuracies
written into history he thoroughly investigated every possible source to satisify the truth. Gilbey published two books
"Langsdorff of the Graf Spee" and "Admiral Raeder's Navy". Today he continues research and adds new information to his files.
